Michael Mejia

A native of northern California, Michael Mejia arrived in Salt Lake City in 2012 to join the faculty of the University of Utah, where he is now associate professor of creative writing and literature. He received his BA in English from the University of Southern California in 1992 and his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama in 2000. He has also taught at Berry College in northwest Georgia. The author of two novels, Forgetfulness and TOKYO, both published by the noted independent, avant-garde press FC2, Mejia has also published many short works of fiction and nonfiction in journals and anthologies. He is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation. In 2006, he co-founded the small press Ninebark Press with his wife, editor Mindy Wilson, and poet Sandra Meek, and in 2014, he assumed the editorship of Western Humanities Review, a hybrid literary and scholarly journal published by the University of Utah's Department of English since 1947. Mejia also regularly reviews films at the annual Sundance Film Festival for Salt Lake Magazine.
